À rebours des conceptions habituelles, Minayo Nasiali montre que la modernisation urbaine d’après-guerre n’est pas seulement décidée par en-haut. A Marseille, les débats sont nombreux entre élus, urbanistes, architectes, habitants, autour de la citoyenneté : qui a droit à un « bon » logement ? Quelles populations sont écartées de ce droit et se retrouvent altérisées et racialisées ? Ainsi, de façon très originale, l’historienne part du local pour analyser les modifications du projet impérial français et ses impacts sur la vie quotidienne.

Max Weber, Norbert Elias et Pierre Bourdieu ont en commun de concevoir l'action sociale comme un système d'attentes partagées par les acteurs sociaux et leur environnement qui leur permet de répondre adéquatement ou pas, aux exigences formulées par les règles collectives. En s'y conformant, les individus en retirent bénéfices et reconnaissance, et l'ordre social s'en trouve, lui, stabilisé. Pour comprendre cet ajustement des acteurs sociaux aux règles, les trois sociologues ont recours au même concept : l'habitus. Les trois sociologues en font état à chaque fois pour des situations différentes, autant individuelles que collectives, et toujours en lien avec une origine ressentie comme manquante. C'est le cas avec la sensualité pour Weber ; la défaillance du Premier Reich allemand pour Elias ; la trahison de ses origines pour Bourdieu. Pour chacun d'entre eux, la tentative de s'arracher au vide de l'origine échoue et les reconduit au manque initial. Pas plus la passion amoureuse saisie dans les termes de « l'amour-fou » chez Weber et chez Bourdieu, que la violence militaire quand elle verse dans la barbarie avec Elias, n'y changent quoi que ce soit. Avec ces différents régimes d'émotions se trouve posée la question de la place de l'inconscient collectif.

Chez Levinas, l'existence est investie comme liberté, se référant à un passé immémorial qui déformalise le fil temporel, diachronie d'un temps non synchroni­sable. C'est ce que mettent en lumière les textes ici réunis. Dans un dialogue critique avec Schelling et Kierkegaard, se dessine l'approche d'un profond jadis se soustrayant à toute substruction logique de l'être. En dialogue avec La pensée interrogative de Jeanne Delhomme, se développe une pensée modale, s'émancipant des servitudes de l'histoire, diachronie de l'immémorial. Dans la liberté de la création et de la jouissance artistiques, monde renversé chez Hegel, monde neutralisé chez Husserl, l'œuvre d'art paraît telle l'irréalité surgissant sur fond de monde à même la phénoménalité. Selon Levinas, c'est en son exotisme et son arrêt dans l'entretemps que l'œuvre d'art s'impose au paroxysme de sa matérialité, rendant perceptible dans l'émotion le mystère même de l'autre.

Les noms d'Alexandre Pouchkine, Nikolaï Gogol, Ivan Tourguéniev, Fiodor Dostoïevski, Lev Tolstoï ou Anton Tchékhov sont depuis longtemps familiers des lecteurs du monde entier. Mais qui sait que ces « monstres sacrés » de la littérature russe ont côtoyé des écrivaines de talent qui furent célèbres en leur temps, et dont les œuvres sont entrées en interaction avec celles de leurs homologues masculins ? Qui connaît les noms d'Anna Bounina, Elena Gan, Maria Joukova, Karolina Pavlova, Nadiéjda Khvochtchinskaïa, Olga Chapir, sans même parler de les avoir lues ? Car il existe, dans la littérature russe du XIXe siècle, un espace textuel riche mais encore à peine exploré, un dark continent resté longtemps ignoré de l'historiographie et de presque toutes les institutions littéraires. L'Archipel noir de la littérature russe invite à la (re)découverte de cet espace en explorant un autre passé littéraire possible. L'ouvrage, en ce qu'il se veut tout autant informatif que critique, propose aussi une réflexion sur les mécanismes qui régissent l'écriture de l'histoire littéraire et les processus de canonisation. Le Texte féminin et l'analyse du grand récit de la littérature russe sont en effet les deux points aveugles des recherches menées en France sur la Russie : en croisant les études de genre et l'histoire littéraire, culturelle, sociale et matérielle, L'Archipel noir de la littérature russe comble à la fois un vide de publication et un impensé de la russistique française.

The book is based on nearly a decade (2011–2020) of sustained ethnographic research within and across households in Harpurhey, North Manchester, England. Harpurhey is a suburban area in Manchester, located just three and a half miles northeast of the city centre. This book interrogates the everyday lives of people in Harpurhey ethnographically, placing their lives and agency at the centre of analysis. It explores the everyday lives of people who live with poverty and are rely upon state welfare support to make ends meet. Analytically, the arguments in this book begin by making a distinction between the production of poverty as a political, economic and ideological effect of capitalist processes and state activity, and the everyday, mundane choices and behaviours of the people who manage those effects (cf. Goode and Maskovsky 2001). Each chapter shows what may be concealed and revealed in interpersonal relationships between people living with poverty and in multiple interdependencies.

Traditional bone setting (TBS) has long held a prominent sway in African healthcare, particularly in the more remote and pastoral expanses of Africa. This unique interdisciplinary religious, human rights, and sociological study of medicine manuscript is an examination of not only generationally inherited ethnobotanical, pharmacognosy TBS traditions but also direct observations on how current surgical orthopedic medicine and modern-day social mechanisms clash with traditional healthcare approaches in contemporaneous and inexorable ways. Whether intentionally or not, this entrenched two-tier infrastructure supports, promotes, and maintains a fiscally and socially alienated infrastructure: one that serves the poor general public and the other that is oriented toward serving the prosperous and powerful urban class. Some argue that these disparate structures are destined to remain grassroots-based adversaries, due to systemic mistrust, irreconcilable intellectual and spiritual beliefs, and possible biochemical appropriations. These ensuing biomedical collisions between “Western” orthopedic trauma care and traditional bonesetters in Cameroon (Central Africa), Ethiopia (East Africa), Ghana (West Africa), and Zimbabwe (South Africa) were documented over eight years via one-on-one interviews with TBS patients, practicing bonesetters, and in-country practicing orthopedic surgeons; evidence-based ethnobotanical research; and patient service preferences.

Studying Marriage in Dhofar, Oman explains the choices middle-class, Muslim, tribal Dhofari men and women make when creating a life together. Based on 19 years observations of and discussions about Omani marriages, the book shows all the steps of marriage, including how people decide to get married, the wedding invitations and parties are arranged, the newlyweds’ home is organised, the work within a marriage is delineated and a marriage succeeds or falls apart. Unlike many texts about family life on the Arabian Peninsula, the author spoke extensively to both Dhofari men and women, so that the book is rich with examples of Omanis explaining their personal decisions.

For an audience to agree that indeed here is a masterpiece of a story, it would have been narrated by an engaging orator who satisfies the ear. A story can be told by various storytellers but it is the way in which it is told that merits it as a story worthy to be told. If a story is told with exceptional oratory, it gains the classic story tag. The storyteller in turn comes to be recognised as a classic storyteller. It takes a classic storyteller to tell a classic story. Here, we present to you *Nhorido* a collection of classic *Shona poetry anthology* from a countrywide selection of classic stories submitted by Zimbabwean classic storytellers.

The art of storytelling differs with age and wisdom. Young storytellers have come together with seasoned storytellers to tell us deep stories which pierce our hearts like sharp needles *in the form of poetry.* Each storyteller delved into the deep archives of the heart, unreachable to the general public and brought out the genie to the forecourt. Rarely seen pathways were exposed taking us to the forecourt where various themes are laid bare for all to see. Themes on life gone by, life now and life in the future all presented.

This shows that our country is richly endowed with gifted storytellers and our great culture prevails.Reading this book evokes memories of a life gone by while awakening the reader’s inert knowledge of phenomena. It also helps students of research and those who read for pleasure will find it palatable. Reading the poems is akin to grandchildren who sit captivated to listen to grandmother’s folktales. Grandmother chants, “Stories, stories, stories!” And so chants back the young ones, “Let the stories begin!

'Broken maps, made from stories of displacement and refugee camps, stories of depression, of people learning to live with sound of gunshots today find their space within the broken maps, all living with broken lives. This to me is the scene the poet deliberately calls broken maps and one can go beyond boundaries to meet people whose lives mingle in what they strongly reject from their once brothers, war. Here the poet uses Poetry as a device to relieving this people from anxiety and depression. And it's here one can relax and grab the collection and enjoy the flow of every piece?

Au cours du temps, selon les contextes, les politiques se sont axées sur la construction, la déconstruction et la reconstruction de modèles d’accueil de ces étudiants pour mieux orienter l’immigration sur le territoire français.
Les étudiants, quant à eux, cherchent à atteindre leurs objectifs, s’adaptent au système universitaire et valident leurs semestres en ne transgressant pas les textes juridiques de l’État.
La dualité des objectifs (ceux de l’État, ceux des étudiants) va dans le sens d’une migration pour les études en France. Elle vient rappeler la relation d’interdépendance entre les différents acteurs engagés dans ce processus.

Bonet Byton Kamwela is an ordained minister in the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia in Northern Malawi. He holds an MA in Theology and Religious Studies from Mzuzu University, a BTh from Livingstonia University, and a Diploma in Theology from the University of Malawi. He is the author of “Married and No Sex anymore,” “Friendship and Faith” and three Tumbuka books. He has served several congregations in the synod, currently at Vibangalala in Loudon Presbytery.
He is married to Roselyne Mkwala and they are blessed with three children: Ambele, Tuntufye and Lughano. Religious change is a worldwide fact, often disliked, though protected by the principle of Religious Freedom. Enukweni is a small area in Northern Malawi, which can stand for many similar areas in Malawi and beyond, where religious change is largely between Christian denominations, but where there is also some movement between Christianity and Islam, both ways. Archipelagothic: The Gothic in Philippine Culture is an edited collection that brings together essays examining the place of the gothic in Philippine culture. This groundbreaking volume, the first book on the topic, is appropriately comprehensive, covering a range of genres, historical periods, regions, and languages. While the essays in this collection do not reach a consensus regarding the gothic, they all refract the meaning of the term to expand its utility, so that it may properly speak to the Philippines’s longue durée of multiple colonialisms and various regional cultures that coexist under the umbrella of the nation. This is an important collection of poems written in Zambia’s widely spoken vernacular language-ci-Bemba. Austin Kaluba’s collection underscores the fact that the greater responsiveness of the writer must be read as reflecting their desire to make a definite impact within their society. For Kaluba, his poetry is marked by a shift from individualism to the national socio-economic, political, and class awareness. The bulk of poems in this collection are about the yawning social gap in Zambia marked by the middle class Nirvan space of the Apamwambas-upper class occupied by locals when white settlers were expelled and the general populace who live on shoe string budgets. The poet borrows heavily from ci-Bemba proverbs and folklore while striking a fusion of the traditional poetic forms and modern formula as mediated by his artistic philosophy. Mr. Kaluba is faithful to the African writer’s role of identifying himself with the common people against the members of the political class. The collection also includes poems on effects of colonialism, environmental concerns, love and philosophical subjects.

Most explanations for the bumpy post-independence trajectory of many countries in Africa and the Middle East presuppose the existence of an objective, universal development format, modelled on western European civilisational principles. Decolonising International Solidarity argues that the supposed universality of the civilisational model that was ‘offered’ during and after colonisation in exchange for the ‘resources’ of Africa and the Middle East was flawed, not only in its social, cultural, political, economic and historical underpinnings but also in its environmental assumptions. The latter is a dimension that has, surprisingly, received little attention in post-independence literature on colonisation. This natural environmental lens on development challenges also offers an innovative perspective on current issues of governance, agricultural development and environmental management, multiculturalism and migration in developing and rich countries. The book concludes with some proposals for a decolonised global solidarity framework that values rather than erases diversity.

Every person must accept the validity of the good life as well as its limits. Theology of maintenance is about ‘shalom’ where the broken is restored, the missing is found, the lacking is fulfilled. However, it all begins with the theology, a reflection upon the designer of the world we live in, and that is God. Everything we are and want to be requires maintenance. Failure to maintain our lives God’s way leads to destruction. I encourage you to think “maintenance.”
